Fundación Niños con Alas – our sponsored charity
Sunny Sky Solutions is proud to support Fundación Niños con Alas, a non-for profit and non-denominational organisation established over ten years ago and based in Montevideo, the capital city of Uruguay. Fundación Niños con Alas fights against child poverty focusing not just on financial support but on mentoring and educating children and their families. The organisation supports over 1,750 children in the most deprived areas of the city in the following ways:
- mentoring programme (“padrinazgo”)
- focusing on improving school attendance and school retention
seeking donations of books, toys, clothing and food- developing allotments with children
- looking after school buildings
- supporting school staff
We have been delighted with its progress as well as its careful and caring internal management over the years – now we are proud to have Fundación Niños con Alas as our sponsored charity.
After supporting Fundación Niños con Alas for the whole 2011/12 year, we had the amazing opportunity of actually visiting three of its schools in Uruguay (see pictures below). We were humbled by the outstanding work that volunteers and practitioners do there every day, in the most difficult conditions. We had the privilege of meeting children benefiting from this work – it was clear that hope is now part of their lives, and that, if they work hard, they do have a chance of escaping the poverty cycle. We made our annual donation to the charity and renewed our commitment for the next year, deeply believing that our tiny support is making a real difference.
